It’s the holiday season and Child Care Resource Center (CCRC) is kicking off its Winter 2011 Book & Toy Drive to benefit 2,000 children in the San Fernando and Antelope Valleys.

It is hard to believe but there are close to 90,000 children, just in CCRC’s service area, currently living below the Federal poverty level. And, as a matter of fact, a greater portion of families and children live in poverty in America today than three decades ago. CCRC needs your help in making the holidays just a little brighter for some of these deserving children.

WAYS for YOU to GET INVOLVED:

Host a collection bin at your location (CCRC will supply the bin, postcards, and posters)

Donate new, unwrapped toys or books for children ages 0-5 at MCCU’s Northridge branch.

Make a cash donation and they’ll do the shopping for you

BOOK & TOY DISTRIBUTION:

Books and toys will be wrapped and personalized for 2,000 children in CCRC’s Head Start Preschool, Family Child Care Home Education Network and School Readiness programs

Every child in these programs will receive an age appropriate book and toy between December 11th and December 24th

ABOUT CCRC:

CCRC, a leader in child development for 35 years, serves over 25,000 children and families each month through its Resource and Referral, Head Start, Book, Toy & Resource Library, School Readiness Initiative, child care financial assistance, child development workshops, and child care provider assistance and training programs.

The Los Angeles Department of Public Health (LADPH) has granted 12 member agencies of the Child Care Alliance of Los Angeles (CCALA) just under $1 million to offer free flu vaccines and provide health literacy information to over 50,000 children, families and child care providers in Los Angeles County.

One of the two main goals of the campaign is to exercise the capacity of Child Care Resource Referral agencies to improve pandemic and emergency preparedness through planning, coordination and mass distribution of influenza (flu) vaccinations and information. The collective goal is to vaccinate as many children (age 6 months and older), parents, child care providers and their families as possible by the end of April.

The “vaccinating” agencies – Child Care Resource Center (CCRC), Crystal Stairs, Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF), Options and Pathways – will identify and prioritize clinic locations including administrative offices, community partner locations, agency run preschools, and licensed child care provider facilities. Agencies will coordinate clinics with Maxim Health Systems, a community driven organization that provides on site flu shot clinics throughout the United States.

The second main goal of this partnership is to improve emergency preparedness and vaccine awareness through targeted education, trainings and workshops. All participating agencies will work together with California State University, Northridge to develop culturally and linguistically appropriate educational materials regarding pandemics including prevention, recommended vaccine schedules, vaccine safety and overall health and safety benefits associated with vaccinations and pandemic preparedness.

Resource Referral agencies will conduct targeted pandemic and vaccine awareness workshops for child care providers and parents using developed educational materials as well as workshops to assist child care providers in establishing pandemic preparedness plans and procedures.

FREE FLU SHOT clinics are now being held throughout Los Angeles County. Call (818) 717-1047 or (661) 789-1205 for dates, times and locations!

Call TODAY to schedule your appointment!
