Is the State of California Holding Your Money?
November 3, 2008
The answer might be YES!
Some people don’t realize they have anything – maybe money from an old savings account where you forgot to change an address? What about a rebate or refund that was returned to sender?
By law, on an annual basis, financial service entities send the State of California money from accounts with no activity or contact for at least three years. This is called escheating. The State holds that money until you ask for it. They call this unclaimed property. Do you really want the State holding your money?
Go to the State website to find out if you or a family member has any funds owed to you. In these fragile economic times, every little bit helps so definitely check it out.
