MCCU on KCAL9!

MCCU was featured in the October 16, 2008 Money 101 segment on KCAL9! They shot footage for the piece at our Chatsworth branch. In the segment, Bob McCormick talks about how credit unions are a safe alternative to banks. He goes into a bit of detail regarding the differences between banks and credit unions and what credit unions offer. I would like to clarify something that Bob mentioned, that wasn’t completely accurate:

  • Bob mentioned that because credit unions have a lower profit margin, we can’t offer things like frequent flyer miles. This is incorrect. Many credit unions, including MCCU, offer rewards on their credit cards. We offer a no annual fee, no cash advance fee Visa credit card with rewards for travel or cash back.

I do, however, give huge kudos to Bob and KCAL9 for actually running a story on credit unions. When you watch the news lately, all you hear is banks this and banks that. Most people don’t even really know what a credit union is, so any help we can get in getting the word out there and educating consumers is much appreciated!
